'Sacred Fellowship' is my interpretation of the importance of
preserving the bridge between the ethnic people of the rainforest,
their natural heritage and the gifts of creation to all of us
as stewards.
The influences of both faith
and music in the Maiombe rainforests of the Congo and Angola
run deep. This is the home territory for the chimpanzee, the
gorilla, the African Grey Parrot and myriad other forms of flora
and fauna. Vocal music predominates but is often accompanied
by stringed or percussion instruments innovative in nature. The
Bantu speaking societies of Africa often seem to carry faith,
music and rhythm as a basic part of their nature and are a part
of everyday life. The favoured translation of the bible in the
Maiombe is entitled Masonukwa Manlongo. Literally, it means the
Sacred Writings. One of the hymnals used is Nkunga Mia Kintwadi,
meaning Hymns of Fellowship. Hence, the title, "Sacred Fellowship".
